Whoever said vegan apple crumble doesn't taste as good as the original is w r o n g.
If you know me, you know how much of a sweet tooth I have.
After almost every savoury meal, I need something sweet to satisfy my cravings right away.
For a few months at the beginning of the year, I was on a mission to watch my diet and especially my sugar intake. I found myself finding healthy sugar alternatives to satisfy the demon inside me screaming for chocolate, cakes, doughnuts, you name it. Fruit and dark chocolate just weren't doing it for me.
A family friend introduced me to the vegan apple crumble. Now at first, I thought how good can this actually be... it probably has about 20 dates and tastes absolutely awful (I'm not a huge fan of dates).
As my bowl of crumble was in the microwave heating up, my family friend began telling me all the ingredients involved. My eyes widened – "no refined sugars???!" I gasped. This can't be true it can't be REAL. There's a catch.
There was no catch.
The steaming crumble came out of the microwave. I took a mouthful – it was absolutely phenomenal.
Now when I say phenomenal, some of you may taste this and think "Ok. A bit of an exaggeration". But for someone who had been looking for a sweet/sugar alternative for weeks, this completed me.
This vegan apple crumble not only satisfied my sweet cravings, but it left me feeling full to the brim and no longer looking for something sweet to snack on!!
P.s. it does have dates but not as many as I thought it would.
